Agriculture and biodiversity

Intensification of agricultural production over the last thirty years has severely impacted agricultural land and its associated water catchment areas. Erosive runoff, accumulation of pesticides, overconsumption of water, and excess fertilizers are the most commonly reported problems. However, agriculture also has a remarkable ability to create or select the species and varieties needed to feed the world, and to develop practices that promote better ecological functioning of crops and agricultural land. MAB France encourages the development of low-input farming practices, which promote domestic and genetic biodiversity and create suitable habitats for species dependent on cultivated land.
