The MAB France Committee was created in 1972. It is responsible for and coordinator of the activities carried out on a national level by the MAB Programme. Its role is to liase between the French teams involved in the MAB, the International Secretariat of the MAB at the UNESCO and any French administrations that may be concerned.

The President of MAB France is a personality from the scientific world named by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Committee is made up of vice-presidents, representatives of the administrations that have an interest in the MAB (Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Devlopment, Ministry of foreign affairs, and overseas territories and départements) and various research organisms (CNRS, INRA, IRD, Natural history museum, Universities, etc.). The committee has the assisitance of a scientific secretariat. The funding of the committee is under the responsibility of the French Commission for UNESCO
